Mortuaries.
The Mortuaries in Clapham, Streatham, Tooting, and Wandsworth
have been visited several times during the year, and I am
able to report that the By-laws and Regulations have been carried
out in a satisfactory manner.
With reference to the Wandsworth Mortuary the Public
Health Committee have on several occasions had the question of
providing a new Mortuary for Wandsworth before them, but so
far no decision as to the site has been arrived at.
The Mortuary at Tooting has been closed, but a temporary
one has been provided pending the erection of a new one in Wandsworth.
In Clapham, 40 bodies were removed to the Mortuary, compared
with 30 in 1912 ; in Streatham 51 compared with 39, and
in Wandsworth 114, of which 53 were from Wandsworth, 37 from
Putney, six from Streatham and 18 fromTooting, compared with 117
in 1912—a total of 205 compared with 186 in 1912. In addition,
four bodies were removed to the temporary Mortuary at Tooting.
No infectious cases were admitted to any of the Mortuaries
during the year.
GENERAL SANITARY WORK IN 1913
The following list shows the special inspections made by me
during the year :—
(1)—Complaints were received from several owners of the deposit
of house refuse on land in Greyhound Land by a contractor,
and on visiting the premises it was found that a considerable
quantity of house refuse had been deposited there in contravention
of the By-laws. Notice was served on the contractor
and this was complied with by the removal of most of the refuse
to another locality, some of it being burnt on the spot under
the supervision of the Sanitary Inspector.
