In Tooting 601 deaths occurred in Public Institutions, 336 in
Tooting Bee Asylum, 126 in the Fever Hospital, 104 in Tooting
Home, 33 in the Fountain Asylum, and two in Newlands House
Asylum.
113 of these—63 in the Tooting Home, 43 in the Fever Hospital,
five in Tooting Bee Asylum, and two in the Fountain Asylum,
were of persons belonging to this Borough.
Of the 336 deaths in the Tooting Bee Asylum, 193 were from
Old Age, 10 from Pulmonary Tuberculosis, four from other forms
of Tuberculosis, 56 from diseases of the Respiratory Organs, 42
from diseases of the Heart, six from diseases of the Nervous System,
five from Cerebral Haemorrhage, six from Cancer, six from diseases of
the Urinary System, four from Congenital Debility, and four from
all other causes.
In the Fever Hospital, 126 deaths occurred, 43 of which
belonged to the Borough, compared with 39 in 1912, 48 in 1911, and
54 in 1910. 18 of these deaths were from Scarlet Fever, 35 from
Diphtheria, 34 from Measles, 20 from Whooping Cough, one from
Enteric Fever, six from diseases of the Respiratory Organs, one from
Pulmonary Tuberculosis, two from Tuberculous Meningitis, two
from Enteritis, and seven from other causes.
104 deaths occurred in the Tooting Home, 63 of which were
Borough residents. 58 of these were from Pulmonary Tuberculosis,
23 from Old Age, six from diseases of the Respiratory Organs,
four from Cancer, seven from diseases of the Heart, five from
Apoplexy, and one from Nephritis.
In the Fountain Asylum for Imbeciles, 33 deaths occurred,
two of which belonged to the Borough. Six of these were due to
diseases of the Nervous System, five to Pulmonary Tuberculosis,
four to other forms of Tuberculosis, one to Heart Disease, eight to
diseases of the Respiratory Organs, four to Congenital Debility, and
five to other causes.
