Deaths and Causes of Death in Public Institutions.
In the Public Institutions in the Borough 1,034 deaths occurred
during the year, compared with 958 in 1912, 850 in 1911, and 723 in
1910. Of these, 822 deaths were of persons not belonging to the
Borough, compared with 767 in 1912, and 212 of persons belonging
to the Borough, compared with 191 in 1912.
The increase was again chiefly due to the increase in the number
of deaths of persons not belonging to the Borough.
In Clapham 62 deaths occurred in the Hostel of God, nine of
these being Borough residents. Of these 34 were due to Cancer,
22 to Pulmonary Tuberculosis, one from Rheumatic Fever, two from
Bronchitis, one from Influenza, and two from other causes.
In Putney two deaths occurred in the Priory, Roehampton,
one from disease of the nervous system, and one from heart disease.
In Putney Hospital, 31 deaths occurred, 18 belonging to the
Borough and 13 not belonging thereto. Eight of the deaths were
due to accident, two to Suicide, four to diseases of the Urinary
Organs, two to diseases of the Lungs, two to diseases of the Heart,
one each to Diphtheria, Enteritis, Appendicitis, obstruction of the
Bowels, Cancer and Diabetes, and seven to other causes.
In Streatham there were 7 deaths in St. Anne's Home, 15 in
the Home for Aged Jews, and eight in the Middlesex County Asylum
Annexe. Of the seven in St. Anne's Home, three were from diseases
of the Respiratory Organs, two from Heart Disease, and two from
other causes. Of the 15 in the Home for Aged Jews, two were from
diseases of the Nervous System, six from diseases of the Circulatory
system, two from diseases of the Respiratory Organs, two from
Cancer, one from Old Age and two from other causes. Of the eight
in the Middlesex County Asylum Annexe, three were from Pulmonary
Tuberculosis, three from diseases of the Nervous System, and two
from diseases of the Respiratory Organs.
