It is now, however, generally recognised that what are entitled
the para-syphilitic diseases as General Paralysis of the Insane and
Locomotor Ataxy are later manifestations of Syphilis, and if the
number of deaths from these is taken as a criterion a more reliable
estimate may be arrived at.
In 1913 the number of deaths from General Paralysis was
31, and from Locomotor Ataxy 10, a total of 41, 33 of males and
eight of females. In 1912 the number of deaths from General
Paralysis was 26, and from Locomotor Ataxy four, a total of 30,
24 of males and six of females.
The following Table shows the death-rate from Infective
diseases for the whole Borough for the year, as well as for the five
previous years.

Acute Polio-Myelitis.
13 cases of the above were notified during the year, three from
Streatham, one from Tooting, and nine from Wandsworth. One
of the cases was under one year, eight from one and under five
years, and four from five and under 15 years.
