Analysis of Cases.
Table LXXIX. shows the number of tuberculous and nontuberculous
cases grouped in age periods, and the percentage found
to be tuberculous.
Of the 936 cases 343 or 36.64 per cent. were tuberculous, and
593 non-tuberculous.
493 cases, i.e., over half of the total number, were under the
age of 15. Of these 106 or 21.5 per cent. were tuberculous. Of 443
cases, aged 15 and upwards, 237 or 53.5 per cent. were tuberculous.
The difference can be explained by the greater ease with which
contact children can be persuaded to attend for examination than
contact adults. As will be seen later the majority of the contacts
examined were non-tuberculous.
