of the general widening of Putney Bridge Road, towards the cost
of which the Borough Council is contributing one-third.
Cedars Road and
Southcroft Road
Woodpaving.
65. Under agreements between the Borough Council and
the County Council, the periods within which the
Borough Council was to pave with wood the carriageways
(excluding the tramway tracks and margins) of parts
of Cedars Road, Clapham, and Southcroft Road, Streatham, were
extended by eighteen months in each case.
East Hill
Widening.
66. A widening of East Hill, between Fairfield Street and the
Baptist Chapel, has been carried out by the London
County Council, the Borough Council contributing
one-third of the expense. The estimated cost was £2,360.
High Street,
Wandsworth and
St. Ann's Hill
Widening.
67. In accordance with the terms of the agreement between the
Borough Council and the County Council referred
to in a previous report, the County Council gave
up the strip of the site of the Old Vicarage, in
high street, wandsworth, required for widening the public way
there to 54 feet, and the Borough Council continued the widening
to the foot of St. Ann's Hill. At the time when the agreement was
entered into the County Council proposed to erect a new technical
institute at the junction of High Street, Wandsworth, and St.
Ann's Hill. The Borough Council has on many occasions urged
upon the County Council the desirability of the scheme being
proceeded with, and on 12th June, 1912, a deputation, consisting
of the Mayor, Aldermen Cresswell and Penfold, Councillors Bulstrode,
Denny, Harding, and Plumridge, attended before the Higher
Education Sub-Committee of the County Council in support of the
proposal. The matter is still under the consideration of the
County Council.
York Road
Widening.
68. The widening of York Road, Wandsworth, by the Borough
Council is now almost complete. The Council
has, however, been unable to agree reasonable terms
for certain outstanding interests, and steps are being taken for
their compulsory purchase under Michael Angelo Taylor's Act.
