The last mentioned proposal was not, however, entertained by the
Road Board. With regard to (a) the Road Board suggested that a
trial should be made in Kingston Road, Putney Vale, of various
methods of re-surfacing roads, the Borough Council making the
necessary arrangements for the execution of the work and the maintenance
of the several sections for specified periods, and the Road
Board contributing three-fourths of the cost of construction. The
estimated cost of carrying out the works is £1,930. The Borough
Council agreed to this proposal and the works have now been completed.

Improvements.
76. The Council has also under consideration a proposal for
the diversion of Upper Richmond Road, Putney, at
the County boundary at Priests' Bridge, by the
construction of a new road across private property, so as to
abolish the sharp corners in the road there. The larger part of
the improvement is in the County of Surrey, and the Council is
in communication with other authorities affected with the view
of the scheme being- submitted to the Road Board in the near
future.
77. In connection with the woodpaving of Upper Richmond
Road, between Roehampton Lane and Priory Lane, the Borough
Council is endeavouring to make arrangements with the Barnes
Urban District Council for narrow strips of Barnes Common to
be added to the public way in order to make the path adjoining the
Common of an uniform width.
78. The owner of Nos. 191 to 203, Upper Richmond Road,
Putney, having given notice of his intention to convert those
premises into shops, the Borough Council took the opportunity
of effecting a widening of the road in front, in accordance with the
plan approved some years ago. As the alterations to the
buildings were about to be proceeded with, and satisfactory
terms could not be arranged with the owner, it became
necessary for the Council to put in force its powers
for the compulsory acquisition of the strip of land.
When the matter came before the jury the compensation
estimated by the claimant's witnesses varied from £2,886
