Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The passage at rear of Furzedown Market, Tooting, has
not yet been properly paved, although some work was carried
out which temporarily abated the nuisance. Steps are,
however, being taken to deal with this under the Metropolis.
Management Act.
There has been a very great improvement in the condition
of these passages since the works were completed, and
this is also the case in regard to the other passages dealt
with in previous years.
(4.) Special house-to-house inspections were made during the year
in Young's Rents, Rowland's Cottages, Wirtemberg Street,
North Street, and Manor Street, Clapham; Bigg's Row,
Labourers' Cottages, and Brewhouse Lane, Putney; Sunnyhill
Road, Wellfield Road, Edgington Road, Hazelhurst Road
and Foss Road, Streatham; Salvador and Shepherd's Close,
Tooting; and King's Arms Yard, Stockwell Court, Marters
Cottages, Cumbers Yard, Point Pleasant, and Ram Square,
Wandsworth.
These inspections were made chiefly on account of the
damp conditions reported to me by the Sanitary Inspectors,
and also to ascertain if any of these premises could be reported
to the Council under the Housing, Town Planning,
etc., Act.
Including the house-to-house inspections and inspections
for certificates under the Revenue Act, but excluding the routine
inspection of bakehouses, slaughter-houses, cowsheds,
and offensive trade premises, 1,310 inspections were made of
premises, chiefly previous to the service of statutory notices.
My attendance at the Police Court was necessary on 16,
at the Sessions on one, and at the County Court on two
occasions.
