Extension of
Putney Vale
Cemetery.
121. The purchase of 15 acres of land for the extension of
Putney Vale Cemetery, referred to in the last
Annual Report (page 65), has been completed, the
Local Government Board having approved the proposal and sanctioned
a loan for the purpose, after holding a public inquiry into
the matter. The purchase-money was £6,000. The land has been
acquired principally to meet future requirements for burials in the
Borough, but a portion will be used at an early date to provide
first-class graves. The remainder of the land has been let for the
present.
Redemption of
Rent Charge,
Putney Vale.
122. The Council, in conjunction with the owners of the
adjoining property, have redeemed the rent charge
on the land at Putney Vale, payable to the Dorothy
Cecil Charity of Wimbledon, by the purchase of
sufficient Consols to produce an annual sum equal to the amount
of the rent charge. The Council's proportion of the redemption
money amounted to £307 3s. 4d. Consols, costing the sum of
£253 5s. 4d.
Drainage of
Streatham
Cemetery.
123. With reference to the extension of the system of
drainage at Streatham Cemetery (estimated cost
£1,700) mentioned in the last report, a portion of
the work has been carried out during the past year, the amount of
the accepted tender for this portion being £795. Other works
have also been carried out in connection with the pump and gas
engine at the cemetery.
Regulalions
for Burials.
124. The subject of the regulations as to the burial of nonparishioners
in the Council's cemeteries has been
under consideration. Some difficulty has from time
to time been experienced in dealing with cases of non-parishioners,
and the Council considered it desirable to clearly define in the
rules what members of a purchaser's family may be buried at
parishioner's fees. The table of fees has accordingly been
amended with this view, and some other amendments made therein,
partly consequent upon the re-arrangement of the times for
funerals. The amended Table has now been approved by the
Local Government Board.
