High Street,
Wandsworth,
and St. Ann's
Hill Widening.
88. The London County Council having acquired the site of
the old Vicarage in High Street, Wandsworth, for
the purpose of erecting a technical institute thereon,
the Borough Council offered to transfer its interest
in the vacant land and cottages, at the corner of High Street and
St. Ann's Hill, to the County Council so as to enlarge the area of
land available for the institute, and give it a more important
frontage. The offer of the Borough Council was conditional upon
the County Council widening to 54 feet the part of High Street
upon which the premises abutted, throwing into the public way the
site of the bay windows of the cottages in St. Ann's Hill, and contributing
two-thirds of the cost of the paving works to be
executed in connection with the proposed improvement. The
London County Council accepted this offer, an agreement was
entered into, and the consents of the Local Government Board and
the Board of Education obtained. The necessary steps are being
taken with the view of the widening being effected as soon as
possible.
Footbridge over
River Wandle.
89. The new footbridge over the River Wandle, by McMurray's

year's report, was constructed at a total cost, including
the acquisition of a small piece of land required for the
western abutment, of £190 16s. 5d. The estimated cost was
£200. The new bridge is in a more convenient position and more
commodious than the old one, which has been removed.

go. The Borough Council's applications for contributions
towards the cost of widening certain parts of Putney
Bridge Road are still awaiting the decision of the
London County Council. At the request of the County Council
that Council was furnished with a plan showing the widenings
which it was suggested should be carried out should a line of
tramways be constructed along the road from Putney to Wandsworth,
and an estimate of the cost of such widenings is in course
of preparation. The County Council promised to consider the
Borough Council's applications when this estimate is supplied.
