carriageway between the outer tramway rails in Cedars Road and
Clapham Common, North Side, being paved with wood, and to the
usual other conditions. The County Council, however, declined to
agree to the condition as to wood-paving unless the Borough
Council paved with wood the remainder of the carriageway of the
roads referred to within a period of two years. The Borough
Council concurred in this proposal, and the tramway works will
probably be put in hand shortly.
81. As stated in last year's report, an agreement was entered
into between the Boroueh Council and the London
County Council with regard to the extension of the
tramways along Streatham High Road, from the former terminus
opposite the Tate Public Library to the County boundary at
Norbury, and the widening and paving of the road in connection
therewith. The work of constructing the tramways was begun in
January last, and the Borough Council from time to time pressed
the County Council to proceed therewith as expeditiously as possible.
The tramway and paving works and certain of the essential
widenings were completed in July, 1909, when the lines were
inspected by the Board of Trade and opened for traffic. The part
of the carriageway along the tramway route, for the maintenance
of which the Borough Council is responsible, was paved throughout
with wood, and the footpaths with stone, the estimated cost
of this work being £15,720. The wood-paving was carried out by
the County Council for the Borough Council simultaneously with
the tramway works.

82. Repeated applications were made to the County Council
for permission to round off the corner of Streatham
Streatham Common at the junction of Streatham High Road
with Streatham Common North. The Parks and
Open Spaces Committee of the County Council having rgain
refused to accede to the Borough Council's request, a further
communication was addressed to the County Council on the
subject, and the matter is still under consideration.

83. A fatal accident having occurred in Clapham Common,
North Side, the Borough Council obtained permis-
sion from the County Council to widen the road by
throwing a strip of Clapham Common into the public way. The
carriageway between Long Road and Macaulay Road was made
