Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
In all 3,130 inspections of these were made, compared with
3,148 in 1907, 3,233 in 1906, and 2,628 in 1905, and 216 intimation
and 19 statutory notices were served.
The total number of workplaces on the Register was 910, and
1,676 inspections were made, while 109 intimation and 10 statutory
notices were served.
The total number of defects found was 609, including 16
cases in which there was a breach of special sanitary requirements
for bakehouses, compared with 545 and 16 in 1907.
To abate these nuisances 373 intimation and 32 statutory
notices were served, all of which, with the exception of 12, were
complied with at the end of the year. The 12 outstanding were
complied with, with two exceptions, in the first month of this year.
These two exceptions were two laundries which were given up
shortly after service of the notices.
In all, 609 defects were found and 532 remedied, but only 373
intimation notices were served, as one notice frequently called
attention to several defects on the same premises.
