Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
refuse is removed by contractors other than Messrs. Hempleman,
to be informed that such refuse should be stored on
their premises in proper receptacles, and that fresh receptacles
should be left every time such refuse is removed."
Messrs. Hempleman informed me in July that the removal of
fish offal from the shops in Putney which was formerly done by
means of a tank van was now being carried out by means of
proper sealed tins.
No other complaints were received during the year with
reference to the removal of offensive trade refuse.
Unsound Food.
During the year 1 box of Catfish, 2 boxes of Codfish, 1 box
of Sprats, 1 box of Plaice, 2 boxes of Mackerel, 2 cases of Coalfish,
3 boxes of Herrings, 1 box of Whiting, 1 box of Dabs, 1 box
of Soles, 3 boxes of Grapes, 1 case of Bananas, 7 baskets of
Currants, 10 boxes of Tomatoes, and 16 baskets of Strawberries,
were destroyed at the request of the owners, and the usual
certificates granted.
Factories and Workshops.
Although there has been a slight decrease in the number of
inspections of factories and workshops during the year, owing
chiefly to illness among members of the staff, yet a large amount
of work has been successfully carried out, and I am able to report
that the condition of these is generally satisfactory.
Outworkers' lists have again been the cause of a considerable
amount of correspondence, but the circular issued in 1907
has been productive of beneficial results, a greater proportion of
the lists having this year been sent in twice without a reminder.
The Tables which follow are similar to those used in previous
Reports, and the whole of the work done by both male and female
Inspectors is there summarised in a concise form.
