The population for the purposes of the Equalisation of Rates
Act was estimated in 1906 as 296,020, in 1907, 308,663, and in
1908, 318,603, these populations being calculated from the number
of rated houses.
Table I. shows the population of each Ward and the number
of rated hereditaments in 1901, the number of hereditaments in the
middle of 1908 and the estimated population.
