Catalogues.
A General Subject-Catalogue of the books in the Balham Library
was published in October. The Card Catalogues at
each Library have been revised, and the usual supplementary
and other lists issued at intervals during the year. Attention
has also been given to the preparation of Subject-Catalogues for the
Streatham and Tooting Libraries.
Beading
Booms.
The iucreased accommodation provided at the Tooting Library, by
the liberality of Sir William J. Lancaster, has relieved
the crowding which frequently occurred there at busy
times of the day.
The rooms are supplied with a comprehensive selection of the
leading newspapers and periodicals, and the large number of readers
who constantly use the departments is an indication of their great
popularity and usefulness.
A list of the papers and magazines provided at each library is
appended. See pages 224-229.

The following is a statement of the receipts from the sale of catalogues, fines, etc., at the three libraries:—

given on page 223. The Sub-Committee desire specially
to thank the Misses Lancaster, of Putney Hill, for their
very kind gift of a graudfather's clock for the Tooting Public Library.
The work of altering and completing the basement at the Balham
Library was carried out -during the summer months. By these improvements
ample room for storage and other purposes has now been
provided at this library.
