ioo Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
33 out of a total of 65 deaths from Diarrhoea, and 18 out of a
total of 62 from Enteritis occurred in the third quarter of the
year. The proportion of deaths in this quarter to total deaths
from Diarrhoea is much smaller than in previous years and was
due to the fact that the mean temperature in that quarter was
much under the average.
The number of deaths from Diarrhoea, Zymotic Enteritis, and
Enteritis under one year represents 13'8 per cent, of the total
mortality at that age, compared with 33 per cent, in 1906, 21.1
per cent, in 1905, and 28.8 per cent, in 1904, so that the diminution
of the mortality under one year is largely due to the decrease in
the number of deaths of infants from the above causes.
In 76 out of the total deaths under one year, special enquiries
were made, and the following Table shows the nature of the food
given.
