120. The Council decided to concur in the resolutions Nos. 1
to 8, but did not see its way to agree with the resolution No. 9.
A deputation, upon which Alderman Hewett represented this
Council, subsequently waited upon the President of the Local
Goverment Board and the Home Secretary in support of the views
of the Conference.
Streatham
Tramway
Extension.
121. The Borough Council has again had under consideration
the subject of the suggested extension of the London
County Council's tramways at Streatham. A new
proposal has been made for the construction of a line of tramways
from the Streatham terminus along Streatham High Road and
Mitcham Lane to the county boundary at Roe Bridge so as to
serve the neighbourhood of Mitcham Lane, where the population
is rapidly increasing. As it was found that the extension of the
tramway from the Tate Public Library to the county boundary at
Norbury was not among the County Council's Parliamentary proposals
for next year, the Borough Council, on the 31st July last,
decided to ask the County Council to include in its applications to
Parliament next Session, the scheme proposed by the County
Council in 1902, for a double line of tramways along Streatham
High Road and the widening of that thoroughfare to 60 feet in
connection therewith, the Borough Council reserving its right to
oppose the Bill containing the scheme. Both proposals are under
the consideration of the Highways Committee.

Tramways.

proposed by the London County Council, for widening
Upper Richmond Road and East Hill, Wandsworth,
and the formation of a new road from Buckhold Road to
Broomhill Road, in connection with the suggested construction of
tramways from the existing tramway terminus at East Hill, via
East Hill, High Street, Wandsworth, West Hill, Upper Richmond
Road, and High Street, Putney, to join the authorised tramways
at the south side of Putney Bridge, the existing tramways in
North Street, York Road and Red Lion Street forming a loop,
and other loop lines being provided via Buckhold Road, the proposed
new road, and Broomhill Road, and via Oxford Road and
Putney Bridge Road, so as to avoid further extensive street widenings.
The London County Council asked whether, in the event
of the improvement being undertaken, the Borough Council would
