The best thanks of the Sub-Committee are tendered to the donors
to the Library. A list of donors will be found on page 294 of this
report.
Lending Department.
During the year 1906-7 there has been an increase in the stock
this department of 662 volumes, of these 647 were
added by purchase and 15 were presented to the
Library. The total number of volumes now available
for home reading amounts to 9,270.
There has been an increase in the issues from the department
of 3,356, the total issues for the year being 67,736, as compared with
64,380 volumes issued during the year 1905-6. Considerable attention
has been paid to the old stock. During the year 410 volumes were
rebound, 380 have been replaced, and 29 volumes have been withdrawn
from the stock as not being worth replacing.
The books in this department are shelved in open cases and
Reference readers have free access to the books, a privilege
Department, which is much appreciated by the residents of Putney.
The Reference Library is also used by many persons residing in
neighbouring districts. No statistics of the issues of books are
available, but approximately 150 persons use the department daily.
During the year, 96 volumes have been added, making the total stock
at present 2,203 volumes.
Magazine Rooms.
Early in the year, with a view of relieving the crowded state of
the Magazine room, the Sub-Committee decided that the
spare room should be used as an additional magazine
room. Judging by the use made of these two rooms the action of
the Sub-Committee has been fully justified. Thirty-one monthly
magazines and reviews, three quarterlies, and 40 weekly periodicals
are placed in these rooms. The magazines and reviews are transferred
to the lending department at the end of the month, and issued to borrowers for home reading.
News Room.
The list of newspapers, &c., provided in this room includes
28 daily newspapers, among which are Birmingham,
Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester and Plymouth daily
journals, 55 weekly newspapers and periodicals and 40 monthy and
quarterly publications.
