NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT, 1948 SECTION 47
REMOVALS
During the year two cases were dealt with under this Section
The first concerned an elderly woman, aged 76, who was living
in filthy conditions, and unable to look after herself. The Deputy
Medical Officer of Health visited her and recommended that
application should be made to the Magistrate for an Order for her
removal to a suitable home.
The application was granted by the Magistrate of the North
London Police Court and the lady was subsequently admitted to
the London County Council's Home at Highgate.
The second case concerned an elderly man, aged 77. He was
visited by the Deputy Medical Officer of Health who reported that
the conditions under which the man was living were appalling.
Application for a removal order was granted by the Magistrate and
the man was admitted to the home at Highgate.
In addition to these cases, several elderly and infirm persons
were visited by the District Sanitary Inspectors, and assistance
was given by the Public Health Department by securing Home Help
Services and admissions to Hospitals where necessary.

BURIALS
During the year six residents who died without financial means
and had no known relatives, were buried by the Council under this
Section. The cost to the Council was £78 19s. Od.
