Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest Restriction
Acts.
Under the provisions of these Acts increases of rent are permitted
to be made by landlords, and tenants who consider that their
houses are not in all respects reasonably fit for human habitation,
may apply to the Local Authority for a certificate to this effect,
which will enable them to suspend payment of the increase of rent
until the necessary work to put the premises into a good state of
repair has been completed.
During the year 9 applications were made to the Council for
Rent Restrictions Act Certificates and 3 for Rescinding Certificates
and in every instance the appropriate certificates were granted.
House-to-House Inspection.—Special house-to-house inspection
of certain streets in the borough was carried out during
the year.
A total of 282 houses were inspected and 201 notices were
served and complied with. The total number of re-inspections
made was 1,084.
