POPULATION.
The population at the last census (1921) was 52,167.
The following estimate of population for the middle of 1922 has
been adopted by the Register.General for the calculation of the
death.rate and birth.rate of the Borough for the year 1922 :—
52,620.
BIRTHS.

During the year 1922 there were 937 births, viz:—490 males and 447 females. The birth.rate per 1,000 per annum was therefore 17.8, as against 20.4 for the preceding year.
