MEDICAL EXAMINATION OF STAFF
The department's medical officers undertake for the Council the medical examination of
new entrants to the Council's service, of staff and employees absent due to sickness exceeding
one month, of employees considered for participation in the Sick Pay Scheme and for extension of
service beyond the age of 65 years, as well as assessments for gratuities and other reasons as
required.
Examinations carried out during the year numbered 826, details on page 115.
RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES
Persons who keep or use radioactive materials, unless exempted, are required, under the
provisions of the Radioactive Substances Act 1960, to register with the Ministry of Housing
and Local Government and to obtain authority for the accumulation or disposal of radioactive
waste.
The Ministry has issued 8 registration certificates under Section 1 of the Act with
respect to premises in the borough.
In addition two hospitals for which registration certificates are not required used
radioactive materials.
