INSPECTORIAL STAFF.
During the year the Staff has been increased by the
addition of 4 new Sanitary Inspectors, whose work in
connection with the Inner Wards of the Parish is already
beginning to have a satisfactory result; whilst the members
of the old Staff, by having smaller areas to supervise, are
carrying out better work, in the sense that such work is
more thorough a id systematic. The Vestry is to be
congratulated upon having raised the status of the Sanitary
Inspectors by increasing their salaries and offering a maximum
of £170 per annum (with uniform)—the office of
Chief Sanitary Inspector having been abolished; whilst the
increased and re-organised disinfecting staff is also a credit
to the Parish. (See pp. 93-96).
With the increased staff the Medical Officer (with the Vestry's approval) redivided the Parish into 11 divisions, each division being under the charge of an Inspector, as follows :—
Old Wards.* | No. of Houses. | Population. | Inspector*. |
---|---|---|---|
North Marsh | 2238 | 20,004 | Jackson |
South Marsh | 2059 | 17,353 | Wallis |
Bishop's | 2783 | 25,229 | Hooper |
Prince's | 4579 | 37,279 | Jones |
Of the four new Inspectors, Messrs. Hooper and Jackson
commenced their duties on October 5th, and Messrs. Wallis
and Bowden on October 19th, 1896—their appointments
* It will be noted that the Old Ward Divisions have been retained as far
as possible, as by so doing the Parish has been divided into Districts that
for Inspectorial purposes are practically equal—the populations and numbers
of inhabited houses being based on the Returns of the 1891 Census.
