DIPHTHERIA.
During 1896, 129 deaths were registered in Lambeth
from diphtheria, as compared with 103 during 1895, and an
annual average of 111.7 for the last ten years (1886 to
1895).
652 cases were notified during 1896, as compared with
614 in 1895, and an annual average of 514 7 for the six years,
1890 to 1895.
Of the 652 cases notified, 263 were removed to hospital,
and 389 were treated at their homes. The case mortality
per cent, for the year is, therefore, 19.8, varying from 26.9
to 14.9, according as the cases were treated at hospital or
at home respectively.
