In London during 1896 there were registered 940 deaths
out of a total of 25,676 cases of scarlet fever notified,
giving a case mortality of 36 %.

The number of scarlet fever cases notified in Lambeth during the year was 1,550, as compared with 1,389 for 1895, and an annual average of 1446.3 for the six years, 1890 to 1895. No scarlatinal milk outbreak occurred during 1896.
