253 post-mortems were conducted by 76 medical gentlemen
and 2 lady doctors—the highest number of postmortems
by one doctor being 24; the lowest, 1.
The Coroners' Court sat 110 times (exclusive of adjournments).
There were 16 cases of drowning (2 females and 14 males)
and 10 cases of suicide-4 by poisoning (3 males and 1
female), 2 by hanging (both men), 2 by cutting their throats
(both men), and 2 by jumping off high buildings (both men);
3 deaths were the result of railway, and 3 of street,
accidents; 5 deaths were the result of shooting, 2 (females)
having been murdered and 3 (males) having committed
suicide.
