LEGAL PROCEEDINGS
Shops Act, 1950, Sec. 22
The Shops Act provides in Section 22 that a person employed
for more than four hours on a Sunday shall receive in respect of his
employment on that Sunday, a whole holiday on a day other than that
of his statutory half holiday, either in the week preceding the Sunday
of his working or in the following week and shall not be employed
about the business of a shop on more than two other Sundays in the
same month.
It was found in a shop in the Borough that this Section had
been contravened on five occasions, and on 8th March, 1961, the
company responsible was fined £5 in respect of each of the five
offences. In addition the Council were awarded costs of £3.3s.
