To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Hornsey.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report on the
Health of the Borough for the year ending December 31st, 1934.
The vital statistics are highly satisfactory. The infant
mortality rate is the lowest ever recorded in the Borough (37.9
infant deaths per 1,000 births), whilst the maternal mortality
rate of 2.75 per 1,000 births is also low compared with 4.41 for
the country as a whole.
These figures reflect the favourable position of the Borough
socially and economically and the efficiency of its social services.
The Maternity and Child Welfare Committee received with
great regret the resignation on account of ill-health of Dr. Jessie
Muir, Medical Officer at the Centres since 1925. Her position has
been filled by the appointment of Dr. Muriel Radford.
I am,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
R. P. GARROW,
Medical Officer of Health.
