To His Worship the Mayor, the Aldermen, and the Members of
the Council of the Borough of Hornsey.
Gentlemen,
I beg to present my Annual Report on the health of the
Borough during the year 1910.
Once more the death-rate is lower than in any preceding year.
Considerably fewer deaths were registered in and belonging to
the Borough than in 1909, although it is estimated that the population
of the Borough has increased by over 2,000.
The fall in the birth-rate, however, is greater than the fall
in the death-rate, and the excess in the number of births over
the number of deaths is only 656.
The infantile mortality, though still very low, is somewhat
higher than in 1909. That year, however, was quite an exceptional
one.
Fewer cases of infectious disease have occurred than for many
years past—the number for 1910 is about 30 per cent. below the
average of the last 15 years, notwithstanding the great increase
in population.
The Zymotic death-rate is the lowest the Borough has ever
had.
Consideration of the remaining vital statistics leads to the
same conclusion, that during the year 1910 the public health of
the Borough has again attained a very high standard.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
HAROLD COATES, M.D.. D.P.H.
