CAUSES OF DEATH.
The year 1872 has been an exceptionally healthy one. The
causes of death are stated in the usual manner and will be found
in the first table at the end, No. XIII. There has been nothing
during the year that can be called an epidemic. We find in
comparison with last year there has been a great decrease in
the number of deaths from Scarlatina, Small-Pox, Typhoid, Diseases
of the Respiratory Organs, and from old age; a marked rise from
Whooping Cough, whilst deaths from Accident, Diseases of Children,
Diseases of the Digestive Organs, Diseases of the Nervous System,
and Diathetic Diseases remain nearly the same.
The following table will shew the number of deaths from
several classes of disease during the past ten years. I have in each
case stated the deaths before 5 years old and after that age.
