Bakehouses.— These have been dealt with in Part 4 of this report in
connection with the administration of the Factory and Workshops Act, in
which the Medical Officer of Health is required to report specifically, vide p. 200
Kitchens of Restaurants and Eating Houses.— These have also been
dealt with in Part 4 of this report.
Places where Ice Creams are made.— There are now 230 places of this
kind in the borough, and to them the Inspectors made 348 visits. They have
been kept in a pood state. They are for the most part owned by Italians,
among whom the provisions of the London County Council General Powers
Act, 1902, translated into their own language, have been distributed.
ADULTERATION OF FOOD AND DRUGS.
Not the least work of the Public Health Department is to obtain samples
of foods and drugs for analysis by the Public Analyst for the detection of the
adulteration.
During the last eighteen years 15,449 samples have been examined, of
which 1,692, or nearly 11 (actually 10.95) per cent were adulterated or sold
contrary to the provisions of the Adulteration Acts.
