PUERPERAL FEVER.
Seventeen cases were reported, which is the lowest return since 1900, when
16 cases were notified. It is satisfactory to note that they are 7 below the
corrected average of the preceding 10 years. They were in the proportion of
1.96 per 1,000 births, as compared with 2.57 in the preceding decade.
Fatality.—4 deaths, or 23.5 per cent., occurred among the reported
cases. This is the lowest percentage since the notification of the disease became
compulsory. During the 18 years, it has been on one occasion as high as 5G per
cent., and on at least two occasions it has reached 54-5 per cent., while it invariably
exceeded 35 per cent.
