DISEASES OF THE RESPIRATORY ORGANS.
Under this heading are included Acute Bronchitis, Bronchitis, Pneumonia,
Broncho-Pneumonia, Pleurisy and Asthma, which in the aggregate caused 927
deaths, or 19.8 per cent. of the deaths from all causes, and represented a
death-rate of 2.61 per 1,000.
Acute Bronchitis caused 132 deaths, 57 males and 75 females, of whom
52 had not reached the end of their fifth year, while 80 were over that age. 39
were under twelve months old. Of these deaths 8 occurred in public institutions.
Chronic Bronchitis was the registered cause of 298 deaths, of which 69
took place in public institutions within the Borough. With two exceptions
the deceased had all reached their 25th year. It was particularly fatal after the
