At the request of the Medical Officer of Health of the London County
Council the homes of 892 children were visited and carefully examined for
verminous condition, and in 84 cases notices were served on the parents of the
children, and in 58 cases on owners of the houses, with respect to verminous
clothes and rooms; in 39 cases bedding and clothing removed for disinfection,
and in three cases for destruction.
Copies of these 892 reports were duly forwarded to the London County
Council Educatio n Department.
In 38 cases the London County Council instituted legal proceedings under Section 122 of the Children Act, 1908, and the prosecutions resulted in fines varying from Is. to 10s., as follows : —
