Seasonal Attacks —In the earlier quarters of the year the infectious
diseases were below the average of the corresponding quarters of the preceding
ten years, but in the third and fourth quarters they were in excess of
by 30 and 376 respectively. Similar increases were noticed throughout the
metropolis.
First Quarter.—The 327 cases notified were equal to an attack-rate
of 4 02 per 1,000, and contrasted with a decennial average of 107 cases, so
that the return showed a decrease of 80.
Second Quarter.-—There were 357 cases notified, or 42 fewer than the
average for the decennial period. They represent an attack-rate of 4 39 per
1,000 inhabitants.
Third Quarter —530 cases were known, which is 30 above the average
that obtained in the corresponding quarters of the 10 years, 1903-1912. They
were equal to an annual attack-rate of 6 51 per 1,000 of the population.
Fourth Quarter.—957 cases were notified, as contrasted with a
decennial average of 581. There has, therefore, been an increase of 376
attacks. These cases represent an attack-irate of 10.92 per .1,000 of the
population.
