ARTIZANS' AND OTHER DWELLINGS.
There are no additions to be made to the list of these buildings which
was given in the report for 1911. They at present number 442 dwellings,
containing some 5,109 sets of apartments. They are occupied for the most,
part by the working classes, although clerks and persons of the middle class
live in a considerable number of those of a better class.
Some of the older buildings require constant attention, and, as stated by
the Medical Officer of Health last year, are not nearly as full as in former
days. There can be no doubt that working class families are seeking for
small houses, so that they may have them entirely to themselves, and which
are so common in the large towns in the north of England, but are so wanting
in this great metropolis.
