COMMON LODGING HOUSES.
The return given by the London County Council shows a decrease of 2
in the number of these places in Islington. They are not inspected by the
Borough Council's Inspectors, except so far as their sanitary state is concerned,
but by officials of the London County Council, who have power of inspection
by day and by night. They are licensed annually, and are generally kept in a
cleanly condition. One common lodging house at 55, Colebrooke Row, licensed
for 71 women, ceased to be occupied during the year, so that there are now 47
common lodging houses in Islington, of which 36 are licensed for men and 8
for women, while two are for married couples.
