DEATHS OF THE RESPIRATORY ORGANS.
Under this heading are included Bronchitis, chronic and acute, Pneumonia,
Pleurisy and Asthma. Together they caused 980 deaths, and were equal to
a death-rate of 3.0 per 1,000 of the population. They also represent 20.9 per
cent, of the total deaths registered during the year. Taken as a class, and
from year to year, they caused one death in every 10 which occur in the
Borough, although it may be admitted that during the last few years there
has been a decrease in the deaths from them. From 1891-1895 they averaged
1,254; in the five years 1896-1900, 1,096; in the five years 1901-1905, 1,021;
and from 1900-1910 they averaged 987. In 1911 they) caused 855 deaths,
while in 1912 there was a slight increase, the number rising to 980.
