Here it may be seen that since 1891 the deaths from Cancer have risen
from 218, equal to a death-rate of 0.68 per 1,000, in 1891 to 382, equal to a
death-rate of 1T7 per 1,000, in 1912. The mortality rate has therefore risen
72 per cent. In the quinquennial period 1891-1895. the average number of
deaths in each year was 236, and the death-rate 0'72. In In the following quinquennium,
1896-1900, it was 290, and the death-rate was 0.86 ; in the next
period, 1901-1905, it was 323, equal to a death-rate of 0.96, while in the succeeding
five years, 1906-1910, it reached 358 per annum, representing a deaths
rate of 1.08.
