A Report having been forwarded to me respecting the condition
of the houses and their drainage in Maidenhead Court,
I immediately visited the premises and found the drainage in
perfect order, and a liberal supply of water; the staircases
however exceedingly dirty, and the necessary orders have been
issued for their repair. I may take this opportunity of
mentioning, that in no part of the united Parishes are premises
occupied by a class of inhabitants who are so utterly deficient
in order and cleanliness: Inspector Crow informed me that
the court is regularly swept every morning, but that in a few
hours it becomes as filthy as before.
Forty-eight houses have been inspected in William Street,
Orchard Street, &c. and the different requirements enumerated
to the Nuisances Removal Committee.
I have the honor to be,
Gentlemen,
Your faithful Servant,
BARNARD HOLT.
5, Parliament Street,
September 1858.
