Registered deaths numbered 1,383 in the City during 1938. Aiter
deducting 829 deaths of non-citizens in public institutions, etc., in
the City, and adding those of 746 citizens who died in other districts,
the corrected total is 1,300 as compared with 1,432 in 1937, and is
equivalent to an annual crude rate of 10.4 per 1,000 persons compared
with 11.5 last year.
The London death-rate for 1938 was 11.4 and for England and
Wales, 11.6.

The causes of death are set out in Table VII. There was an increase
among males of deaths from alcoholism and diseases of the respiratory
system.
The distribution of deaths in the various wards of the City are
shown in the following table, and may be compared with the similar
figures during the four preceding years:—
