Certification of food for export.—Six certificates were issued in respect
of the export of food products to Canada.
Public Health (London) Act, 1936.
Under Section 187 of this Act it is necessary for premises used for
the manufacture, storage or sale of ice cream, and those used for
the manufacture of pressed, pickled, potted or preserved meat, fish
or other foods to be registered with the local authority.
Ice Cream premises.
At the 31st December, 1936, there were 106 premises on the register
for the sale or storage of ice cream, of which 25 were also registered for
the manufacture of this commodity. Twenty-seven premises were added
to the register. Two hundred and thirty-four inspections were made
during the year.
Strict attention was paid to premises where the manufacture and
sale of ice cream was carried on, particularly where during the previous
ice-cream season bacteriological examinations of samples gave unsatisfactory
results. In some of these cases the installation of proper means
for the sterilization of utensils did not exist; in others the defect
lay in the lack of suitable washing facilities for all persons engaged in
the handling of this commodity.. These requirements were insisted
upon as a condition of registration.
The following are the results of the bacteriological examination of
samples during the year:—
