Three hundred and twenty-five applications for rehousing (other than
from basements) have been investigated and reported by the Medical
Officer of Health to the Housing Committee.
Of the 240 families rehoused by the City Council, 110 were from unfit
basements, 70 from houses in clearance areas or from houses the subject
of demolition orders, and 60 from houses in which the conditions were
unsatisfactory or for reasons of health. Fifty-eight of the rehoused
families were overcrowded.
Unfit Basements.—In addition to the 110 families rehoused by the City
Council, the London County Council rehoused 27, whilst 33 families were
rehoused by other housing associations or themselves obtained other
