House and celebration of the completion of the estate was graciously
performed in June by Mrs. Stanley Baldwin, who spoke of the possibilities
of using roof space as playgrounds for the young and where the elders
could enjoy fresh air. She also mentioned the need for resting places for
the dead in large housing estates.
Ebury Bridge Housing Estate Extension Scheme.—The first two blocks
(Hillersdon and Doneraile Houses) consisting of 106 flats were completed
and the third block of 74 flats was well in hand by the end of the year.
The whole scheme provides for the erection of 280 flats.
Rehousing Operations.—During the year 240 families were rehoused
by the City Council and 110 by the London County Council, making a
total of 350 families removed from unsatisfactory dwellings. The Estates
on which these families were accommodated were as follows :—
