majority of these had been notified elsewhere, some were sudden deaths
of visitors to this country, of inmates of asylums, etc., and the cause of
death in some cases was only discovered on post-mortem examination.
These 34 non-notified deaths gave a percentage of 32.0 of the total
deaths from Tuberculosis for the year.
The Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1924.
The number of unnotified deaths is slightly higher this year, having
risen from 25 to 34 ; the corresponding percentage proportions are 20.6
per cent. (1931) and 32.0 per cent. (1932). Enquiries were made, but
in no instance did there appear to be neglect to notify a case on the part
of a medical practitioner, who in the majority of cases was only called
in when the patient was in an advanced stage of the disease. In 11 instances
the diagnosis was made as a result of post-mortem examination.
Public Health (Prevention of Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925.
The object of these regulations is to prevent anyone who is aware that
he is suffering from an infectious form of tuberculosis from engaging in
certain departments of the milk trade. There was no occasion for
exercising the powers conferred by these regulations during 1932.
The total number of cases of Tuberculosis on the Register at the end
of 1932 was 1,302 as compared with 1,631 at the end of the year 1931,
from which latter figure has been deducted the 611 removed cases and
the notifications for the year added.
Of the 611 cases removed from the Register during the year 1932,
146 were on account of death, 463 persons suffering from Tuberculosis
moved from the City, and notification was withdrawn in 2 cases.
