The following table shows the results of the monthly analyses of the
amount of dirt collected in the deposit gauges. Two of these gauges
were installed in 1930; one at Mount Street Gardens, Mayfair, and the
other at the Mortuary premises, Horseferry Road.

Premises and Occupations which can be Controlled by By-laws
and Regulations.
(].) Common Lodging Houses.— Six in number (detailed on page 23).
They are controlled and supervised by the L.C.C. The City Council's
officers have power of entry and general powers relating to nuisances,
drainage work, and infectious disease.
(2) Slaughter Houses.— By L.C.C. as above. There are none in the
City.
(3) Offensive Trades.— There are none such registered in the City.
(4) Cowsheds.— By L.C.C.: none in the City.
(5) Houses Let in Tenements.— The number of houses on the register
at the end of the year was 393. The Sanitary Inspectors paid 1,683 visits
of inspection to these houses and infringements of the By-laws were
reported in a number of instances.
Appropriate action was taken with regard to the infringements. In
no case was it necessary to take legal action under the bye-laws.
