Deaths.
In the City in the 52 weeks of 1929, 1,799 deaths were registered.
After deducting 974 deaths of non-citizens in public institutions, etc., in
the City, and adding t???se of 1,050 citizens who died in other districts,
the corrected total is 1,875, as compared with 1,497 in 1928, and is
equivalent to an annual rate of 14'8 per 1,000 persons (civilian
population), compared with 11.5 last year.
The London death-rate for 1929 was 13.8 (civilians only), for England
and Wales, 13.4. These rates are much higher than in 1928 for Westminster
and the country as a whole. Among Westminster residents 799
deaths occurred during the first quarter of the year. The number of
deaths and the death-rates per 1,000 for the past fifteen years are shown
below

The causes of death are set out in Table IV. There was an increase
among males of deaths from the following causes:—Influenza,
whooping cough, pulm. tuberculosis, cancer, general paralysis, circulatory,
respiratory and digestive diseases, and diseases of the liver and kidneys.
