The quality of the milk shows a still further improvement, not only
in the amount of adulteration but also in the amount of milk supplied of
the best quality.
Twelve prosecutions were taken with regard to adulteration—7 for
fat abstracted (17, 14, 9, 8, 7, 5 and 4 per cent.) and 5 for added water
(17, 14, 10, 9 and 5 per cent.). The roundsman in a number of cases is
responsible. In one case the man admitted having added separated
milk.
Warranties were successfully proved in four instances.
For selling separated milk to which had been added water, two vendors
were fined: one £2 and £2 2s. costs, the other £1 and 15s. costs.
Sunday Samples.—83 of the samples of milk were taken on Sundays
during the year, two of which were reported adulterated, 3 per cent,
fat abstracted and 9 per cent, added water. One vendor was prosecuted
and ordered to pay £2 2s. costs, the other was cautioned.
Samples taken in course of Delivery—
On Delivery at Shops, &c.—8 samples of milk were taken as it was
being delivered by wholesale firms to retail customers, including shops,
hotels and hospitals. Of these samples, 6 were good, 2 fair. These
samples were taken in consequence of previous samples having been

The Public Health (Condensed Milk) Regulations.—29 samples were
