In this Table all 'primary notifications are included, and also other
new cases of tuberculosis coming to the knowledge of the Medical Officer
of Health during the year.
The increase in the number of cases of pulmonary tuberculosis was not
unanticipated. The effect of unemployment in recent years was not
expected to produce results in a disease such as this is, immediately.
Influenza also has frequently been the starting point or has lighted up old
infection which may have been dormant for years. It is gratifying,
however, to note that non-pulmonary forms of the disease show a slight
decrease.
