Comparison of the rates at different ages shows increases over 1923
in children of both sexes and in males over 45 years of age, but females
over that age show a better record and have not suffered to the same
extent as males of the same age.
In a Table appended to this section of the Report, the causes of death
are set out. By comparison with the similar Table in the 1923 Report,
it appears that among males the excess of deaths was chiefly caused by
influenza, bronchitis and pneumonia, diseases of the heart and blood
vessels, tuberculosis, measles and diphtheria; among females, the excess
is due to respiratory diseases, influenza, accidents, diseases of the digestive
organs, measles, diphtheria and scarlet fever.

The deaths were distributed in the wards in the years 1921,1922,1923 and 1924 as follows:—
